Hello everyone!
This is a special update on the abuse filter in regard to its reception from the past days and looking back.
First, thank you everyone about your feedback on abuse filters, especially the ones on how to apply it. One thing that came up was the concern about whether this was a permanent block from now on. And the answer is no, this version of the filter was only active for the foreseeable future, not that it won't be changed. Until today, because we are rolling out version 2.0 of the abuse filter.
Understandably, no one wants to be censored for an adult series, and this filter has made many suppressed to the point they feel they're not being heard. We in the staff have heard you loud and clear.
At the same time, swearing still comes with strings attached; namely, its ability to incense people to fight and spam just for kicks. Not the kind of chaos that makes this place warm and inviting. Swearing will never, ever, ever be an excuse to say nasty things to people for no reason (and no, swearing "casual" and swearing "crudely" are not the same idea).
So with that in mind, here are the changes in 2.0: common swears like the F and S-words are re-enabled. However, the abuse filter will catch direct slurs and insults (i.e. dip----), NSFW language prohibited by the Terms of Use, and repetitive spamming of regular swears. This will keep the discussions organized and the worst types of profanities out, without restricting free speaking.
For all of you that were dissatisfied by the first version, I hope these changes will improve your wiki experience. As always, let us know how we can further work on the abuse filter and making this community a place for everyone to enjoy!
Note: Although swearing is allowed, remember it is not necessary to swear all the time, so it is best you to try not to if you can help it.
