Kinda wish that people would have flushed the incest thing down the drain the moment it was revealed that Andrealphus is cannonically gay.
It's kind of weird because that is something that's not appropriate
@ALINCOLN16TH My man do you know where you are
Yes I do but it still disturbing
Tinha uma época que não sei porque, eu acha que o Andrealphus era apaixonado pelo Stolas e que queria tomar ele da Stella ou do Blitzy kkkkkkk.
Men and women can sometimes be more affectionate or complimentary to one another if one of them is gay. In a context of two heterosexual men and women, compliments on looks, or displays of affection is associated with flirtation, sexual assertiveness, sluttiness, etc. It can be seen as making anther person uncomfortable, or as you being desperate, can make other thinks you are not prudish, and so on.
But when one of the people is known to be gay, it can diffuse that tension, because it means the comment is likely genuine, it does not single a person out as a sexual target, it does not pose a threat to friendship, and so on.
Another similar moment in the series is when Verosika immediately kisses Stolas when she sees him. Women wouldn't really casually kiss a straight man like that, because it raises tension to an insane extent. But since Stolas is gay, Verosika knows she can give him the affection and validation associated with a man getting a kiss from a woman, without any of the implications that would normally have.
This is actually related to why I find the opening scene of Spring Breakers to be really cringey. Brandon obviously has really, really major gay energy, to the point where it's hard to even suspend disbelief that his character could have be pansexual with at least the potential to have good relationships with women. So when he bombards Verosika with a flurry of really crude misogynist insults, it doesn't sound like real vitriol, it just sounds like the kind of thing a gay man would say while trying to be as misogynist as possible, which he can only get away with as a protagonist character because we can all kind of tell he's gay. And therefore doesn't have the kinds of reasons to hate women that usually only come as part of the baggage of heterosexual resentment.
If Blitzø was more straight-coded, these insults would just make him come off as completely vile. As is, it's not even really funny, it just feels like insults a person would only make like that if they know they are not seen as part of the sort of heterosexual patriarchy, and therefore are not taken seriously as a potentially oppressive person to women. So it sort of just takes me out of it.
Please add a TW for incest because I don't really like it
I can't edit the post for some reason, sorry.
What do you think?
