"You're right. I actually am, ya know. Sorry. I don't want to be this way. Not forever."
Blitzo, to Verosika Mayday, admitting to wanting to change

Apology Tour is the ninth episode of the second season of Helluva Boss and the seventeenth episode overall. It premiered on June 22, 2024, on Vivziepop's YouTube channel.[1]

Synopsis[]

Stolas is invited to a party and things sure do happen!

Plot[]

The episode begins with Blitzo climbing into Stolas' backyard while he's lounging with a book and drinking wine by his pool, trying to check up on him. Stolas is still angry about the previous night and Blitzo wants to make up and have sex with him. During their argument, Stolas reveals that he has been invited to an "Anti Blitzo" party hosted by Verosika Mayday and Blitzo reveals that he knew about Striker being hired to assassinate Stolas but never told him. After more back and forth, Stolas asks if Blitzo has ever felt remorse about what he does. Blitzo boasts that he can apologize to anyone whenever he wants to, deciding that he would apologize to everyone he treated badly... except for Stolas.

Blitzo then goes around Hell and Earth to apologize to everyone he can think of: Martha, D.H.O.R.K.S. (dead and alive), Jesse, the Loo Loo Land mascot, Holly's Wood, but not the C.H.E.R.U.B trio. However, he keeps finding it hard to send Stolas a single text saying that he is sorry.

Blitzo finishes up to the Exes, which, thanks to Stolas, he knows exactly where they will all be at once. He travels to Earth and gets directions to Verosika's party where he sneaks in and disguises himself with a sheet. Meanwhile, Verosika is trying to commiserate with Stolas on his recent breakup and invites him on stage to share how he feels with everyone. Stolas sings his woes with of Verosika and Vortex as backup, with Blitzo watching on with heartbreak and remorse on how he treated Stolas.

After the song, Blitzo follows a now drunken Stolas inside and tries to explain himself and admit what he said earlier was wrong and unfair. Stolas tells Blitzo that all he ever wanted was to have someone genuinely care about him, romantically, like in a rom-com movie before an incubus arrives, complementing Stolas' singing and asking him to dance with him. As Stolas accepts and leaves with the incubus, Blitzo finds Verosika, who seemed to know he was there the whole time.

Verosika and Blitzo discuss Blitzo's attitude and how he ditched her when she confessed her feelings for him but is happy to throw her party every year to help others through their own heartbreak from him. Blitzo genuinely apologizes to Verosika and admits he does want to change and that he doesn't want to be the way he is forever. Verosika accepts the apology and even gives him advice after he gets jealous while watching Stolas making out with his new dance partner. Verosika returns to the party and Blitzo quietly leaves the house and returns to his van. When he turns on the radio, Blitzo hears one of Verosika's songs and sulks, dropping his head to the steering wheel. The car horn blaring is heard before ending the episode.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode to not have any teasers prior to the episodes release.
  • It is revealed that hellborn demons can travel to Earth during Halloween. However, it is unclear if this also applies for non-Hellborn demons, such as Sinners.
  • The Blitzo effigy the demons burn at the stake is the real-life Blitzo plush sold by the series' merchandise line.
  • The tablecloth Blitzo wears has the same pattern as the background behind the series' logo.
  • This episode features animation outsourced to Toon City Animation in Mandaluyong and Vancouver, making it the fourth Helluva Boss episode with outsourced animation.
  • It is the first and only episode in the series where the episode number is in the top left corner instead of the bottom left corner in the title card.
  • It is revealed that Stolas can be summoned to Earth by humans who worship him and sacrifice fellow humans to him.
  • Verosika's party invitation reads:
"Stolas, Congrats! Blitzo has officially broken your fucking heart. It would be my pleasure to extend an honorary invite for being his freshest ex, to our Halloween party in the human world for closure and to indulge in our shared hatred for that miserable fuckboy. Hope to see you there - Verosika Mayday"
    • Although the Anti-Blitzo party was primarily for Blitzo's exes, both Stolas and Dennis were invited despite having never gotten into an official romantic relationship with. Due to the wording of the invitation, it is possible the invite extended to every person Blitzo ever broke the hearts of.
  • This is the first time since their reunion in "The Circus" flashback wherein Stolas pronounces Blitzo's name with the "o".
    • Conversely, this marks the first time Verosika pronounces Blitzo's name without the "o".
  • This is the first time Vortex is seen singing, though it is only as backup vocals alongside Verosika.
  • Before the 2024 Pride Month art was released by the official Helluva Boss Twitter account, Stolas' sexuality being gay was hinted at through the memes Blitzo sends him.
  • The apology baskets Blitzo hands out to the people he hurt contains cheese and hot sauce. This is a reference to Brandon Rogers' favorite snack, and is a common easter egg throughout several episodes.
  • It’s also the first time Blitzo actually hears Stolas singing.
  • The most difficult scene for Vivziepop to write in this episode was the fight at the beginning, but she explained it was not as difficult as the one from "The Full Moon" because that fight had more weight and she had to make it so that it was like neither of them were right, and while the fight in "Apology Tour" was similar as it had to show that neither of the characters were correct and that they were not having a rational fight, it was easier because it could be messier and led to the rest of the episode.[2]

Cultural references[]

  • As seen in the episode, this Halloween takes place on a full moon. In real life, Halloween falls on a full moon once roughly every nineteen years, and all Halloween full moons are Blue Moons.
  • The Hollys ceremony is a parody of the annual Academy Awards ceremonies.
  • One of the trick-or-treaters is dressed as Pennywise from the 2017 horror film It.
  • The old man that says "Happy Halloween" to Blitzo is an easter egg of Brandon Rogers' "Grandpa" character from many of his videos. Rogers also voices the character.
  • The Jack-O-Lantern that Blitzo runs over when he appears on Earth is an easter egg to the character Jangle, from Vivziepop's older animated video, Holidaze.
  • One of the imp attendants is shown to be dressed as Beetlejuice, specifically the Alex Brightman Broadway musical portrayal.
  • Coco and Apple are wearing Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn costumes, respectively.
  • A succubus partygoer is seen dressed as Freddy Krueger, the antagonist of the iconic horror franchise Nightmare on Elm Street.
  • The shark demon blaming Dennis is dressed as Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
  • Loo Loo's eye socket getting plugged by Blitzo’s gift basket makes him resemble the iconic moon from Georges Méliès's A Trip to the Moon.
  • The address of Verosika's party is 666 South Maple Avenue, a reference to the Number of the Beast in the Book of Revelation.
  • One of the memes Blitzo sends Stolas through text is a reference to the real-life meme of the Homophobic Dog.

Continuity[]

  • This episode takes place a day after "The Full Moon" where the Cherubs are still with D.H.O.R.K.S. and have bandages from their fight with I.M.P.
  • Stolas references Striker's attempt to assassinate him from "Western Energy", and Blitzo accidentally brings up his previous attempt from "The Harvest Moon Festival".
  • One of the names on Blitzo's apology list is "Annoying Kid", which may be a reference to Eddie from the pilot.
  • Martha appears in her Sinner form for the first time since her death during the events of "Murder Family". She is shown to be missing her right eye in her Sinner form, which is the result of being shot through it as the cause of her death.
  • Loo Loo Land is still derelict and in disrepair after its destruction in the episode "Loo Loo Land".
    • Loo Loo Land's Robo Fizz is seen still alive but still with his endoskeleton exposed from the fire that burnt off his clothing.
  • The bodies of the D.H.O.R.K.S. agents killed by I.M.P in the episode "Truth Seekers" are still inside D.H.O.R.K.S.'s old facility.
  • The celebrities seen in the "In Memoriam" dedication are Brennan Ragers (the Brandon Rogers caricature) and the unnamed producer from the "Sweetie! I'm in the House!!" sitcom from the episode "Seeing Stars".
  • During Stolas' song, memories of several previous episodes are shown:
    • A memory of Stolas flirting with Blitzo during "Loo Loo Land".
    • A memory of Blitzo being carried by Stolas at the end of "Truth Seekers".
    • A memory of them as children playing together during "The Circus".
    • Several memories of their falling out in "The Full Moon".
  • During the All 2 U (Motherf*cker) song, a brief sequence of young Blitzo and Stolas' silhouettes running appears as a callback to the episode "The Circus".
  • Blitzo saying he "sorried Fizz so hard, he cried" is a callback to the episode "Oops".

Errors[]

  • Despite voicing additional characters, Brandon Rogers was omitted from the "Additional voices" end credits.
  • One of the moons on the table in Stolas' garden, representing the full moon, is first entirely black when it appears, then becomes entirely white just afterwards.
  • In some instances of All 2 U (Motherf*cker), Verosika and Vortex are animated with the intention of both singing/speaking in unison, but only the vocals of one or the other is heard instead of both.
  • Apple was given a bellybutton during the scene where the crowd waves glowsticks in the air during Stolas' singing part though in previous scenes and scenes afterwards she is lacking a bellybutton.
  • When Verosika and Vortex sing at the beginning of All 2 U (Motherf*cker), the microphone changes hands for each of them.
