Brighter is the first of three songs featured in the Hazbin Hotel season two episode "Weapon of Mass Distraction", sung by Vox about his desire for power, and showcasing his human life as Vincent Whittman and how he rose to power up to meeting his death.

An 80s style demo of the song was released as part of the Bonus Demo Edition season 2 soundtrack on November 24, 2025.[1]

Lyrics[]

Vincent: That's it for today!
And remember, trust us with your weather!

Vox: Rome wasn't built in a day
You gotta climb a little higher
To the top of the display

Where there's a will, there's a way!
You just gotta slit a throat or two
To make the weak obey

Vincent: Today we mourn the loss of one of our own
But our commitment to the truth is as strong as ever
Remember, trust us with your news.

Vox: If you want it, just take it
The world's yours, don't waste it
Go make the stars align, to shine
Brighter!

Brighter than the heavens in the skies above (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
You'll be, brighter!
Goin' supernova, all the eyes look up (At you, at you)
Brighter!

Vincent: And a big thank you to my producers for giving me this chance.
I know I have some mighty big shoes to fill,
but I promise, you can trust me with your... entertainment.

Vox: It's not a shot in the dark
Not up to chance if you've got plans
You'll cancel every question mark

Fish like to swim next to sharks
Yeah, you eat or you get eaten
And you're feasting on their hearts

Vincent: They're calling me a God, Bob!
You gotta strike while the iron's hot.
Leave the channel to me.
I'll bring in more new blood than you'll know what to do with.
Come on!
Trust me, with your network.

Vox: Shine brighter!
Brighter than the Heavens in the skies above (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
You'll be, brighter!

Goin' supernova, all the eyes look up (At you, at you!)
Brighter!

Vincent: The other studios want to feed you the same old crap everyone's seen before.
You want newer?
You want bigger?
You want brighter! (Brighter!)

I will be your voice, and we will redefine what it means to rule the airwaves!
Trust me, and your future will be brighter! (Brighter!)

Now, who's ready to be baptized into a new era, of entertainment?!

Brighter! (Brighter!)

(Vincent screams when a TV falls onto his head, electrocuting him)

Vox: Finally I'll show them what
I'm meant to be (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
(Brighter)
They won't believe their eyes
When I bring them to their knees

To worship me
Brighter!

That's it for today!
And remember, trust us with your weather!

Rome wasn't built in a day
You gotta climb a little higher
To the top of the display

Where there's a will, there's a way!
You just gotta crack an egg or two
To make a French soufflé

Today we mourn the loss of one of our own
But our commitment to the truth is as strong as ever
Remember, trust us with your news.

If you want it, just take it
The world's yours, don't waste it
Go make the stars align, to shine brighter!

Burning brighter than the Heavens in the skies above (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
You'll be brighter!
When you're goin' supernova, all the eyes look up (At you, at you)
Brighter!

And a big thank you to my producers for giving me this chance.
I know I have some mighty big shoes to fill,
but I promise, you can trust me with your entertainment.

It's not a shot in the dark
Not up to chance if you've got plans
You'll cancel every question mark

Fish like to swim next to sharks
Yeah, you eat or you get eaten
And you're feedin' à la carte

They're calling me a God, Bob!
You gotta strike while the iron's hot.
Leave the channel to me.
I'll bring in more new blood than you'll know what to do with... come on...
Trust me, with your network.

Trivia[]

  • This song is the first time a sinner demon's full true name is revealed, where it is shown that Vox's full true name is Vincent Whittman. This name is strikingly similar to the real life director of many early silent cartoons, minor fraudster, and inventor of an early 3D animation technique, Vincent Whitman.[2]
  • The man Vincent calls "Bob", is shown to be named Robert Sinclaire when he signs the contract before he is killed, a name almost identical to the real world media mogul Robert Sinclair, who directed movies, shows, and plays for MGM Studios until his murder by a burglar in his home in 1970.
  • This song shows that Vox started off as a weatherman, and some of his victims include a news anchor, a talk show host, and a cooking star, personas he took on during Stayed Gone. The only remaining role not present in Stayed Gone was a bishop, however, it could represent his position as the cult leader.
  • Sam Haft confirmed that the initial song concept for Brighter was motivational 80s workplace VHS music, which was pivoted from sonically[3] because it needed to sound more modern, so he and Andrew went changed the instrumental layers until it felt modern.[4] This pivot away from the 80s sound was done in part because Vincent never lived in the 80s,[5] having instead died in the 50s.
    • Haft says that that Brighter exists as genre-less theatrical villain electropop, and like a hybrid of show tunes and modern video game battle music.[4]
  • Vox's first lyric, "Rome wasn't built in a day", is a saying meaning that something grand and important takes time and patience to finish. This may represent Vincent's rise to fame and how he slowly went from a weatherman to becoming the "God of Entertainment" or Vox's plan for taking over Heaven by convincing everyone in Hell to join his side and be loyal to him.
  • Sam Haft says that for Brighter that there are two sides of Vox in this song, and Vox is singing out an audience in this song and he has that "flim flam" man Mask on, and Brighter gives them an opportunity to see how does he sing to himself and what is his soliloquy voice like and how is that different, and it live sin this very Electronic Grandness and they hear his God complex essentially in this song and they see that progression, and it is an ode to ruthless ambition, and part of the gag here is the way Vox describes himself as shining Brighter is also the case in Don't You Forget (Reprise) where he describes himself in positive terms like someone would describe a good television and talks about glowing Brighter and when he says he is "sharper, brighter, better, newer" he has this idea of modernity that he is going to be the most followed and most modern is his inner monologue, and they wanted to have a sense of his vicousness to since the "flim flam man" songs aren't as scary as Brighter is or VOX DEI is and VOX DEI is like how Vox sees himself because it is in a more Electronic and Spooky place, and they wanted to make elements of dubstep work with Christian Borle's performance, and there is this little parallel to Gravity. However, instead of it being similar to Gregorian chant, it's more modern, where they show Vox's followers as they are saying Brighter. This also has a visual effect where, as the fans increase the amount of times they say "brighter" he glows brighter..[6]
  • Sam Haft confirmed that the demo version lyric "You just gotta crack an egg or two to make a French soufflé" is a reference to the proverb "You can't make an omelette without cracking an egg or two" to show Vincent's justifications but changed to a different dish that uses eggs to make it rhyme with the previous line.[7]
