Past[]
At an unknown point of time, the Exorcists are founded by Adam, who suggested to Sera to create an annual purge called the Extermination to cull the demon populace as a way to prevent Hell's forces from uprising against them. Sera reluctantly agreed to the Extermination in order to keep Heaven safe from demons, but on the condition that it remained a secret from the rest of Heaven.[1] Every year, the Exorcists mercilessly killed demons without fail, and, believing they could not be harmed, they never wielded shields, wore little armor, and fought unafraid of harm, even carelessly abandoning their angelic weaponry after use.
At an unknown point of time, Lucifer Morningstar got a pardon for all hellborn demons, including his daughter, so they would be spared from the Extermination, and only Adam's damned progeny would be targeted.[2] This also meant only the Pride Ring would be attacked when the Exterminations take place.

Vaggie's mutilation
During an Extermination in the past, when a top Exorcist named Vaggie refused to kill a demon child she cornered in an alley, Lute mercilessly cut her eyeball out and ripped off her wings. Adam then took her halo away and left Vaggie stranded in Hell. Vaggie left the alley, and after ditching her uniform in a trashcan, Charlie found her and bandaged her missing eye.[1]

Carmilla killing an Exorcist
During the pilot's Extermination, five Exorcists cornered Carmilla Carmine and her daughters. While trying to buy time for her daughters to flee, Carmilla fought the Exorcists and decapitated an Exorcist with her angelic steel ballet shoes,[3] being the first time in history an Exorcist is killed.[2] Sometime after, the Vees found the body and took the Exorcists severed head.[4]
Hazbin Hotel Season 1[]
"Overture"[]
During Charlie's meeting with Adam, several golden exorcist's appear whilst Adam sings. Adam then reveals that the Extermination is going to be a half year early.

Adam and Lute find the body
Later back in heaven, Adam and Lute find the deceased Exorcist's headless corpse in Hell with a drone. Lute wants to go down and kill all demons, but Adam tells her they need to bide their time so Hell won't know what is coming to them.
"Scrambled Eggs"[]

Velvette with the Exorcist head
During the meeting of the Overlords, Carmilla states that the Exorcists had killed 16% of the Pride Ring's population, the highest amount in history. Velvette shows the head of a deceased Exorcist and proposes forming an armed resistance against the next Extermination, but Zestial quickly rejects this idea, stating that they do not know just how the angel was killed and that risking their lives on a gamble would be foolish. Velvette and Carmilla end up arguing about it. During this, Alastor shows interest in eating it and tasting the leftover blood.
Later, Carmilla reveals to Zestial that it was her who killed the Exorcist, and admits she wanted to keep it under wraps out of fear that her daughters could get killed if a war with Heaven ensued.
"Hello Rosie!"[]
With the next Extermination close, Vaggie comes to Carmilla searching for answers on how to fight against the Exorcists. Carmilla then trains Vaggie on the Exorcists' weaknesses and that Angelic Weaponry are how to kill them.
"The Show Must Go On"[]

The Exorcists ready for Extermination Day
The Exorcist army gathers for the Extermination and booed when they hear Vaggie's name, but become more motivated when Adam mentions that whoever brings Vaggie's head will get a million Heaven Bucks. When a portal opens, the army flies through to Hell and begin their attack on the Hazbin Hotel, but for the first time in history are faced with resistance from demons, with many Exorcists being killed.
When Adam is killed by Niffty, Lucifer demanded that the Exorcists leave, and at the order of Lute, they returned to Heaven and did not continue through with the Extermination. Lute then became the new leader of the Exorcists after Adam's death.
