Happy Day in Hell is a song featured in the Hazbin Hotel episode "Overture". It is sung by Charlie Morningstar on her way to pitch the Hazbin Hotel to Heaven.

A teaser of the song was released in a video revealing the cast list on Vivziepop's YouTube channel on October 14, 2023, and the full version of the song was released early on several music services on October 20, 2023.[1] Is also included on the official soundtrack of the series.

Lyrics[]

Charlie Morningstar: I can do this! Somehow, I know it!
I'll get Heaven behind my plans!

Vaggie: Charlie, hold on...

Charlie: There's just no way I could blow it
Not this once-in-a-lifetime chance!

Vaggie: It's just a meeting.

Charlie: To change their minds
And touch their hearts
Or... whatever angels have!

Vaggie: This could be bad...

Charlie: Cheer up, Vaggie!
This could be swell!
Something tells me that today will be a happy day in Hell!

Vaggie: Okay, but just don't... sing to them.

Angel Dust: That bitch is halfway down the street!

Vaggie: Is she—?

Angel Dust: Oh, she's dancin'!

Vaggie: Ugh, no...

Charlie: There's a warm, fuzzy feeling
That wafts through the air
Every street so revealing
It's hard not to stare!
It's a realm so appealing it beats anywhеre
If you don't mind the smell...
It's a happy day in Hell!

Hi, mister! (Demon: Go fuck yourself!)
Demon #1: There's an endless trash fire that's burning my soul (Charlie: Hello!)
Imp: And a ton of barbed wire to shove in his hole! (Charlie: Ah, excuse me!)
Demon #2: Doing what is required, we all have our role
Demon #3: I'm not doin' well!
Demons: Another shitty day in Hell!

Charlie: If I can show them the dream I've dreamed
That any soul can change!
Vaggie: Those angels' minds are hard to change
Charlie: Then they will know everyone can be redeemed
From the evil to the strange!
Vaggie: They're bloodthirsty and deranged!

I can hear all their stories
The lost and displaced
And I know that they're more of an acquired taste
But if I open the door and I give them a place
At my Hazbin Hotel
It'll be a happy day in Hell!

From the porn studio
Where the cinephiles go
To watch award-winning demon bukkake shows!
To the Cannibal Town
Where they don't wear a frown 'cause
Holy shit! Ew, my gosh! WHY?!

And I don't give a crow that
His brain's got in my eye!
Cause I know I can spare them
From Heaven's genocide!

I can do this, I just know it!
(Sinner #1: There's an endless trash fire that's burning my soul)
I'll get Heaven behind my plans!
There's just no way I could blow it
(Sinner #2: I kinda like the barbed wire that's shoved in my hole)
Not this once-in-a-lifetime chance!

To change their minds
(Trenchcoat Demon: And touch my parts!)

Charlie: Uh... No thank you. I'm just gonna...
Fulfill my destiny!
(Trenchcoat Demon: Your loss, bitch!)
I can already tell!

Today is gonna bе a fuckin' happy day in Hell!

Trivia[]

  • The art for the album cover was drawn by SilentZound.[2]
  • According to Vivziepop in an interview, Happy Day in Hell is a tongue-in-cheek homage to, among other classic Disney tunes, the song "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast, being a "getting to know the world" and the "what I want" song, which was the perfect base for what she wanted with Happy Day in Hell.[3]
    • In another interview, Vivziepop mentions other influences for the song being "Good Morning Baltimore" from Hairspray and "After Today" from A Goofy Movie.[4]
  • The Trenchcoat Demon also appears in the Hazbin Hotel pilot where he peeps through a window in Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow when Charlie sings the word "creepers".
  • An early release of the song has the Imp yell "perv!" when Sinner #2 sing about liking the barb wire. This has been removed from later versions.
    • Additionally, the version of the song used in the show differs from either audio streaming release on some of the harmonies.
  • The song is referenced in two other songs in the series.
    • In Hell is Forever, Charlie begins to sing "Happy day in...", before Adam cuts her off.
    • In Finale, the song is referenced twice, once at the beginning when Lucifer Morningstar encourage Charlie to keep following her dream, and at the end of the song when the group mirrors this last line, singing "tomorrow it will be a fuckin' happy day in Hell!".
  • Blake Roman sings the line "And a ton of barbed wire to shove in his hole!".[5]
