Season 1 is the first season of Hazbin Hotel. On August 7, 2020 the series was announced to have been picked up by A24[5] with production ending by March 23, 2023, when Medrano attended the end of production wrap-up party in Australia.[6]
The season was originally announced to premiere in the summer of 2023,[7] however, despite the season being done, due to not having a distribution partner at the time, when Amazon came in, a lot of things had to happen with them before it could be released,[8][9] so the season was unable to air by then.[10] The season instead premiered on January 19, 2024,[11][12][2] with the final episode releasing on February 2, 2024.[4]
The first season has eight episodes, with the first two releasing a week early on the A24 app as part of pre-ordered packages,[4] and each episode having a 22 minute runtime.

Trivia
- In an interview on October 17, 2023, Vivziepop mentioned that season two focuses on a very fun villain and it's a villain that we meet in season one.[13]
- According to Vivziepop, Charlie's biggest challenge in season one is that, right in the first episode, we find out that there's a new challenge to the Hazbin Hotel that creates a "ticking clock", a kind of time element, for her to just prove it's possible in the first place.[14]
- Vivziepop explained that every episode has more than one song in it, saying it is "super musical" and "saturated with songs". She further explains that the songs completely vary in the kind of genre, the kind of sound, and who performs them, and that they are based on what character is performing.[15]
- In an interview that released on December 10, 2023, Sam Haft stated that Keith David and Blake Roman share a lot of screen time,[16] but later in a tweet said to not read into it because he didn't say anything that wasn't publicly apparent from the marketing materials.[17]
- According to a video posted by the Hazbin Hotel Twitter, there are a total of 302 swears across all episodes of season one.[18]
- The following episodes have shown the characters in their respective poses based on their official redesign reveal on the Hazbin Hotel Twitter.
- Vaggie on the crow's nest during the sequences of Happy Day in Hell from "Overture" and Whatever It Takes from "Scrambled Eggs.
- Alastor in his radio tower as well as the Vees on a poster during the Stayed Gone sequence in "Radio Killed the Video Star".
- Angel Dust on a prop bed with fairy lights during the Poison sequence in "Masquerade".
- Lucifer sitting on a throne surrounded by his rubber duck collection during the Hell's Greatest Dad sequence in "Dad Beat Dad".
- In an interview Vivziepop mentioned that the production of season one took about one-and-a-half to two years, and said that she thinks the production time for season two may be similar.[21]
- In a Q&A on January 31, 2024, Vivziepop stated that someone will die but did not say who, only that it will be obvious. She also confirmed that it will not be Angel Dust.[22] This was shown in the finale to be Adam, who was killed by Niffty. Dazzle also died in the episode, and Sir Pentious was assumed to have died as well until being shown to have been reincarnated as an angel at the end of the episode.
- Vivziepop explained that if Sir Pentious had actually died and not still be alive she would have given him a better moment.[23]
- In an interview, Vivziepop mentioned that "Overture" and "Masquerade" were the two episodes that she had planned before A24 that made it into the final series.[24]
- According to Vivziepop, she originally wanted to name each of the episodes after songs from various Broadway shows. This idea however did not make it to the finalized titles.[25]
- According to Vivziepop, Sir Pentious was the first sinner to be redeemed because she thought he was probably the easiest to take out of the main Hotel cast without any major story conflicts in future seasons,[26] and because taking him out of the main group would affect them heavily.[27] Vivziepop also explained that she would have wanted to wait a little longer and explore it some more before having someone redeemed, but a lot of creative parties when working on season 1 felt a character should be redeemed in the first season, and coincidentally there was no guarantee that there would be a second season at the time season 1 was being written, but she thinks it all worked out really well.[26]
- In an interview, Vivziepop explained that A24 decided that the first season would consist of eight episodes, each lasting 22 minutes. She explained that while it was challenging, it was likely their safest option since she didn't know if there would be more seasons.[28]
- Additionally, she mentioned that she already had a clear idea of what she wanted for season one. Even though it was challenging, she was proud of what they managed with the amount of episodes and time available.[29]
- In another interview, Vivziepop explained that there were things she wanted to build up to and have a little bit more of a presence in season one, but because they couldn't fit into the story that was being focused on and be really satisfying, they weren't able to build some things. However, for Season two, they are more able to build some things up that could lead to bigger payoffs later down the line.[30]
- Vivziepop explained that the biggest challenge of the show for the art director, Sam Miller, was that there are a lot of red characters on numerous red backgrounds, and had to find the right balance and the tones of the reds that are used. Vivziepop mentions that she trying to lean more into contrast in the second season.[31]
- SpindleHorse Toons animated "The Show Must Go On", while Princess Bento was responsible for the rest of the series.[31]
- The most difficult scene for Vivziepop to write in season 1 was the one between Angel Dust and Valentino from "Masquerade", but explained that it was also cathartic in a way because, albeit not having a direct experience like that, she has been in relationships similar.[32]
- She also explained that writing "Overture" was difficult because it had to be the new introduction to the characters, giving all the same information as the pilot whilst not repeating the exact beats, and writing "The Show Must Go On" was difficult because the episode had so much that had to be in it and fit into 22 minute episode.[32]
- Vivziepop agrees with the fans' criticism that the pacing is really rapid fire, but explained that it was not something that they had any control over, and that when writing for a show that has limitations there is no option to go over what is budgeted for so she had to make it work.[33]
