"This is Rosie. The most darling, delightful, and dangerous Overlord this side of the Pentagram."
Alastor, introducing Rosie to Charlie

Hello Rosie! is the seventh episode of the first season of Hazbin Hotel, and the seventh episode overall. It premiered on February 2, 2024, on Prime Video.[1]

Synopsis[]

With secrets revealed and the Hotel in the crosshairs, Charlie and Vaggie must do what they can to protect their home from destruction by any means necessary.

Plot[]

After Charlie and Vaggie are kicked out of Heaven, the latter reveals to the residents of the Hotel that she was an Angel. The residents begin to ask questions, such as where her wings are, before Husk asks how come "every time Charlie talks to Heaven, they get deeper into this shit". Vaggie then says that she is sure Charlie is coming up with a plan for all of this. This prompts Alastor to go to Charlie's room via shadows, and finds her wrapped in blankets crying a river while Razzle and Dazzle are comforting her, the latter holding a box of tissues. Alastor comments on how Charlie looks terrible, asking if this is "anyway to act after picking a fight with all of Heaven and dooming your friends and everyone you love?" Charlie tells him to go away and that she doesn't need to hear his sadistic sense of humor. Alastor appears next to her in bed and startles her to the point of falling out, and tells her that her friends are awaiting whatever plan she has. Charlie asks how she can face them after what she did, and how she may be as bad as the cruelest Overlords in Hell. Alastor replies that he never expected such a display of self-loathing from her, who retorts that all he does is stand in the background smiling. The Radio Demon then tells her the uses of a smile, how it inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing, and ensures that no matter what, you are the one in control, but Charlie tells him that she's not in control, because Heaven refuses to listen, and Adam has an invincible army pointed at her doorstep, and she's powerless to stop it.

Alastor, sensing an opportunity, tells Charlie that he "knows something she doesn't know," that the Angels are not as tough as they seem. He then offers to make a deal. Charlie asks if he wants her soul, which he quickly denies, stating that all he wants is a favor, one at a time of his choosing where Charlie harms no one. Razzle and Dazzle begin to growl at him, but Charlie shoos them away, and accepts the deal. They shake hands, and a green light shines, sending ruins, cracks, and souls throughout the room and the roof of the bottom floor. The residents see this and Vaggie rushes to the room, just in time to see the Princess of Hell and the Radio Demon let go of each other's hands, with the latter noting on her timing. Vaggie almost attacks Alastor, but is stopped by Charlie, who tells her that she made a deal with him. He assures Vaggie that Charlie still owns her soul, who was now going to help him with raising an army. Charlie, still bitter over Vaggie never telling her about her past, orders Vaggie to go to Carmilla to convince her to help. While Charlie and Alastor go to get the army, Vaggie tells the others that they could leave and find somewhere safe if they wish.

Meanwhile Charlie and Alastor head to Cannibal Town, which Charlie says seems pretty okay. They then meet the overlord that runs the town, Rosie, who is shown to be a sort of counselor for her people. She notices Alastor, and the reconcile like old friends, saying how the hall have lost some sparkle without him. She then notices Charlie, and says that she's much too young for Alastor, but was just kidding and knowing that he was an "ace in the hole," leaving him confused. Rosie then asks what brings them here, with Alastor that they needed her people's help to fend off against the Extermination, and promise that they will be able to eat their fill. Rosie decides to help, and takes her to a gazebo in the center of town, although warns that the town's residents will need convincing. She tells Charlie that to convince them, she'll need to convince all of them, noting that there's this one woman named Susan, which disgust Alastor by the mere mention of her name, who is a bit of an "ornery old bitch". Charlie tries to convince them, but Susan eventually heckles her to the point that Charlie snaps, becoming too stressed to continue. Rosie then proceeds to pull her aside and take five.

Meanwhile, Vaggie is outside the residence of Carmilla Carmine, demanding to be let in. After threatening to reveal her secret of what she did on Extermination Day, the doors open and Vaggie is let inside. She walks into a room with an indoor balcony surrounding the entire perimeter, where Carmilla is waiting. She gives Vaggie 2 minutes to explain herself and ask questions, which Vaggie uses to ask for her help. She refuses, and explains that the reason she didn't reveal the Angels weakness was to avoid the very problem they suffer now. The 2 minutes are up and Carmilla attacks, and pointing out Vaggie's blunt fighting technique, leaving herself open for attack like her sisters. Vaggie is shocked that Carmilla was able to figure out she was an Angel, with the Overlord saying that she "has a giant x over her eye and wields an angelic spear. It's not rocket science." She then begins to teach Vaggie the weak points of the angels, and, through song, how she'll only stand a chance if she's Out For Love. Over the course of this song, Carmilla trains Vaggie and she regains her wings.

Rosie takes Charlie into a room and says she can tell that something's on her mind. Charlie tells Rosie about Vaggie never telling Charlie that she was an angel even though they shared everything together. Rosie comments that that's quite a secret, but then explains to her that people tend to hide things they're not proud of, especially if it hurts the people they love. "She's flawed, but hey, who down here isn't? If my time in Hell has taught me anything, it's that words are cheap. But actions, they speak the truth". Rosie then asks Charlie what Vaggie's actions have told her, with Charlie responding that she supports her dreams and will do whatever possible to make them come true. Feeling better, Charlie then steps up back onto the gazebo, a bit nervous, but after Alastor gives her his microphone, starts to sing Ready For This. She rallies the town up, however it is the promise of Angelic flesh that brings them to her cause. Charlie is concerned by their intense nature, but Rosie tells her to just keep singing. Rosie and Alastor sing a bit where they talk about how she's mighty powerful like her father, and how Alastor could influence that power. The song ends with Charlie really hoping she's ready for this.

Soon after, Charlie, Alastor, and the army of Cannibals meet up with Vaggie and some of Carmilla's employees lugging angelic weaponry. Charlie forgives Vaggie for keeping the secret and gives her a souvenir from Cannibal Town, which melts Vaggie's heart and embraces her. They walk into the Hotel and are shocked to see its residents rushing around fortifying the place for the oncoming attack.

Trivia[]

  • This episode has one scene shown in the season one trailer, to which the shots were completed and improved.
  • As of this episode Vaggie has regrown her wings, and the residents of the hotel are now aware that she is an angel.
    • This also implies angels may have the ability to regenerate their wings.
    • Before the episode aired, Amazon Prime had accidentally released a screenshot of Vaggie with her wings as part of a series of sneak peek material, which was then immediately removed.
    • Carmilla Carmine reveals that she's already aware that Vaggie was an exorcist based on the latter's x eyepatch and her angelic spear.
      • Additionally, she also reveals that angels can also be killed by their own weapons.
        • Carmine is revealed to have angelic steel ballet shoes, of which she reveals she used in order to successfully kill an Exorcist.
  • Susan, as well as the "Shrunken Head Keychain", are listed as among the official trading cards that can be collected in the packs sold by Amazon.[2]
  • According to Vivziepop, the entire concept of Susan was a after-the-fact alteration "for reasons". She added that writing Alastor beefing with a random old lady was fun too.[3]
  • Rosie teasing about how Charlie was Alastor's girlfriend before saying how he's "an ace in the hole" is a reference to how despite Alastor being aromantic asexual he is not aware of the modern labels.
  • When Rosie first grabs him, Alastor bleats like a fawn, which is a sign of happiness and contentment for deer.
  • Charlie and Alastor finally make a deal, in which Charlie got information about the exorcists in exchange for a favor for Alastor at a time of his choosing that harms no one.
  • Charlie revealed when she was venting to Alastor that she and Vaggie have been together for three years.
  • This is the first time Charlie is shown to have goat-like hooves for feet.
  • It is revealed that Rosie is the leader of the people of Cannibal Town, and that the citizens will only do something if everyone agree to it.
  • Background designer Ashleigh Beevers revealed that the bass surrounded by a fence in Rosie's room is based off how during production Ashleigh had to put a cage around her real-life bass because of her dog, to which Sam Miller found it funny and requested for a fence to be put in the show.[4]
  • In the trailer Carmilla's flashback was in full color, while in the episode the flashback much of the color was grey.

Cultural References[]

  • The episode title is a reference to the 1964 musical and 1969 romantic comedy film, Hello, Dolly!.
  • The expression "Ace in a hole" alternatively means "an advantage which you have over an opponent or rival, and which you can use if necessary". Which Alastor hints at during the episode as how he views Charlie.

Continuity[]

  • This episode continues immediately after the previous episode left off.
  • When Charlie first tries to convince the cannibals to help fight against Heaven, she begins to sing a variant of Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow.
  • Charlie telling Rosie how she has been using singing to pitch her Hotel "never works" is a callback to the pilot in which she sang but was laughed at by everyone.
    • Additionally, Vaggie not wanting Charlie to make a deal with Alastor is also referenced.
  • The episode recalls the events of "Scrambled Eggs".

Errors[]

  • As Alastor is laying on Charlie's bed, the black area on his ear-like hair is noticeably longer.
  • After Alastor and Charlie make a deal, Charlie's hair is untied and messy, but when she stops Vaggie from attacking Alastor Charlie's hair is back to how it normally is only for it to become messy again moments later
  • After Charlie comments on Vaggie's new wings, and the former says "let's go home", Vaggie's wings pass straight through Charlie's arm as they fold in.
