Live To Live is the second of three songs featured in the Hazbin Hotel season two episode "Weapon of Mass Distraction", sung by Sera and Sir Pentious. In this song, Pentious explains to Sera why humans commit the sins they do and how he came to redeem himself, which gives her a glimmer of hope for reconciliation between Heaven and Hell and her own chance to be redeemed.
Lyrics[]
Sir Pentious: Humans are afraid
All of us
All the time
Mortality's a blade
Swinging with no reason, no rhyme
When you're that scared
Teeth are that bared
Ready to say anything
Do any sin to any man
Just so you can live to see a ray of sunshine
Through the haze of the morning ether
Live to fail a million times
Until you finally yell, "Eureka!"
Praying you find a way, make it another day
See your dreams through
Some would kill to live to
Live again tomorrow
Sera: In the battle with Adam
You feared your death
Sir Pentious: Yes!
Sera: But fear didn't drive you to wickedness
And you were brave, you sacrificed
Yourself to save another's life
Something had changed in you, deep within
How does a guilty soul shed their sin?
Sir Pentious: It starts with sorry
Though it cannot just end there
I learned from Charlie
First, you must prove you care
Mistakes are innate to being human and alive
We fall, we repent, we survive
Sera: There's hope for us all as we strive
To live to earn my own redemption (Sir Pentious: It starts with sorry)
Lead the realms to a better new day
Live to end the cosmic tension (Sir Pentious: It starts with Charlie)
Pursue a peace before it's too late
If it prevents the fight, then I must make things right
That's what I'll do so no one kills to
Sera & Sir Pentious: Live to
Sera: Live again tomorrow
Trivia[]
- Sir Pentious' part in the second half of the song is a reprise of "It Starts With Sorry".
- Additionally, Sir Pentious’s pose and outstretched hand are identical to Charlie's in the original song.
- Sam Haft says for this song he almost wept for the notes of the comeback part with "It starts with Sorry", and this song was meant to create a moment where Pentious who is the unlikely person in this scenario who finally manages to communicate the Humanity of the people in Hell to Sera, and Sera is asking herself in this situation just how did she allow this atrocity to be committed but she's still also reacting to this deceleration of war, where she asks herself if she needs to fight in it and send her people in to kill the people of hell, and it's really Pentious explanation of fear that shows the rules of who goes to Heaven and Hell are very unclear, but one thing that does seem very clear is that the people of Heaven are very sheltered and they Don't have much understanding of the follies of Humankind as the people in Hell do, and the idea of being motivated by fear, self preservation, and shame is something that gets communicated to Sera where she is currently being motivated by things like that, and makes her feel that connection that they are not that Different. What really is good about this song is that Sir Pentious takes this very basic rudimentary lesson he learned from Charlie and takes it a step further as he says "It starts with Sorry" but it doesn't end there since an Apology is a begins to accountability and restitution, since the people of Heaven are so naive and they had gone down with Gift Baskets to say they are "Sowwy" for something, and there is this idea where It starts with Sorry but it doesn't end there and you need to take Accountability and responsibility, and Pentious has evolved that Lesson, and the amazing thing about this is that this song Fundamentally means that the War is gonna end once Sir Pentious gets through to Sera it means he has averted the path of War, which means Charlie unknowingly stopped a potential War and she doesn't know it yet.[1]
