"I don't speak whatever language this guy is yappin' in, but he keeps making a hand motion that makes me think the target must be a real freak."
I.M.P mission report

Mission: Chupacabras is the fourth episode of Helluva Shorts. It premiered on Vivziepop's YouTube channel on September 29, 2024.[1]

Synopsis[]

IMP MISSION: CHUPACABRAS

Plot[]

I.M.P is sent to assassinate Gerardo Velazquez, a man living in Tijuana. After exiting the portal, Blitzo is quickly angered at the "human" goats for "being in his way". he promptly grabs one and kicks it into Gerardo's farm, continued by many more.

Upon hearing the commotion, Gerardo quickly rushes outside and sees I.M.P attacking his goats. Gerardo thinks that I.M.P are "Chupacabras", resulting in him dropping his alcoholic beverage and opens fire on I.M.P. Blitzo tells I.M.P to scatter. During the resultant shootout, Gerardo's wife hits him with her sandals, and Blitzo decides to get himself and the others out of there, activating the Asmodean Crystal. Moxxie and Millie make it back to Hell with little problem, but when Blitzo's wild firing triggers an explosion, he is knocked out by a burning goat just as he is about to make it through the portal himself.

When Blitzo wakes up finds himself wearing a ragged goat costume inside a cage, outside the cage is Gerardo selling him as the real "Chupacabra" for only 100 pesos. When Blitzo tries to explain that he is not a Chupacabra, the farmer only just shoves animals (and a plushie) in his mouth as Blitzo tries to speak, and as Blitzo gets pissed off, he finds that not only has Gerardo taken his gun, but also the Asmodean Crystal he needs to get back home. And then the agents of D.H.O.R.K.S. show up to see the commotion (with their van poorly disguised as a taco truck).

Gerardo asks the agents to pay 100 pesos for the "Chupacabra", and is not impressed when they tell him they're with the government. Agents One and Two then began to argue on who's going to pay. Meanwhile, a baby goat comes to Blitzo and he asks the goat to help him out, which he feeds the baby goat a slice of cheese. The baby goat later headbutts Agent One in the crotch, which he then curses at the goat. This causes Gerardo to get infuriated and he pulls out Blitzo's gun, which the agents do the same. Gerardo then tries to fire the gun, but his hand gets burned by the weapon, which later fires a bullet, hitting a windmill, nearly hitting Blitzo, and then deflating a tire on the D.H.O.R.K.S. van. The windmill then falls on Gerardo, bisecting him and killing him. The agents then fire at Blitzo's gun, believing it's possessed, though the gun takes no damage at all.

The baby goat fetches Blitzo's glove with his Asmodean crystal, allowing him to escape his cage. He then taunts the agents to fire at him, dodging every bullet and later obtaining his gun from the baby goat. As he climbs onto the roof of the goat barn, he proudly says he's the Chupacabra (saying chupra-ca-dupra), before firing his gun, scaring the goats inside and causing them to run out. The guests then panic, while Gerardo's wife mourning over his dead body. The baby goat then grabs Gerardo's shotgun and fires at Agent One's leg. The goats later gang up on the agents, causing them to flee in terror.

After the chaos ends, Blitzo later congratulates the baby goat for helping him escape and saving him, making him an honorary I.M.P associate. He gives the goat an I.M.P sticker and putting it on its forehead, before opening a portal back to the I.M.P office. The baby goat later perches on the ledge of the barn roof, looking around at the other goats that have gathered below. Cuts to the goats inside one of the sheds, apparently forming a satanic goat cult, with the baby goat as the leader.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of the short, it shows a picture of Blitzo in the forest on his desk.
  • The alcohol beverage Gerardo was drinking before being woken up by I.M.P is called "mezcal" which is made from agave. Some types of mezcals have been known to possess larvae to give them flavor, which is the case of the one Gerardo was drinking.
  • It is revealed that Blitzo does not understand sentences spoken in Spanish.
  • It is revealed that demonic weapons, at least in the case of Blitzo's gun, will burn humans that try to use them.
    • Although Blitzo's gun has been shown to burn Gerardo when he tries to use it, this wasn't the case for Emberlynn Pinkle in "Mission: Weeaboo-boo", who wielded Blitzo's knife and used it to remove her necklace pendant before giving it back to Blitzo. This may imply that only certain types of demonic weapons can burn humans when they try to use them.
    • It is also revealed that demonic weapons, or at least Blitzo's gun, is not affected by bullet shots and will remain undamaged from being shot.
  • The price Gerardo places on the tickets for people to see the "Chupacabra" is 100 pesos, with that being Mexico's currency.
    • When translated to American dollar, Agent Two says that it is $5.69.
      • At the time the short airs (September 29, 2024), the value of 100 pesos in American dollars was $5.09.
  • Nugget, Vivziepop's pet cat, makes a cameo appearance when Gerardo shoves him into Blitzo.
  • In a tweet, Vivziepop mentions that Caroro gave her insight while she was writing the episode.[2]

Cultural references[]

  • After Moxxie tells him what Earth goats are, Blitzo says he doesn't care how "great" they are. This is a reference to the popular term G.O.A.T., which means "Greatest Of All Time".
  • The sandals that Gerardo's wife throws at Blitzo are known as "la chancla" in Spanish, which Mexican and other Hispanic mothers often use to discipline unruly kids with.
  • The Chupacabra itself is a legendary creature or cryptid that is said to suck the blood of goats and other livestock. Its name in Spanish means "goat-sucker".
  • The logo featured behind Gerardo for the Chupacabra exhibition of Blitzo resembles the logo for the Jurassic Park film series.
  • One of the guests in the farm resembles Maria Posada from Jorge R. Gutierrez's film, The Book of Life.

Continuity[]

  • Blitzo is very specific about what he "sucks" (cocks, pussies, and cloacas), with the latter likely referring to his past intercourses with Stolas, who has a cloaca.
    • Cloaca means "sewer" in Spanish.
  • After recovering his Asmodean Crystal, Blitzo spits on it before rubbing and activating it. This is a reference to the short "Mission: Antarctica" where he had difficulty activating the crystal, with it needing Moxxie sucking on it to activate.

Errors[]

  • When Gerardo gives Blitzo a taste of the iguana, the spikes of the latter pass through Blitzo's jaw.
  • The banknotes for the Mexican Peso have the Philippine Peso sign (₱), when Mexico was the very first country to have the sign ($) as its currency sign.
