"You sold your life for a thrust! Now, that's the spirit of Lust! ♫"
―Asmodeus to Stolas

Ozzie's is the seventh episode of the first season of Helluva Boss, the seventh episode overall, and the final episode that is the first part of the first season's finale.[1] It premiered on October 31, 2021, on Vivziepop's YouTube channel.[2]

Synopsis[]

Things sure do happen!

Plot[]

After another successful job involving the deaths of several lumberjacks, Blitzo, Millie, and Moxxie return to I.M.P. As Blitzo offers to buy everyone drinks later that night, Moxxie declines, saying that he and Millie will have other plans; when asked about it, Moxxie reveals that he got a reservation at Ozzie's for their one year anniversary, causing Millie to squeal with delight. When Blitzo tries to invite himself, Moxxie sternly tells him that the reservation is for two and he is not permitted to join them. Millie can calm an angry Moxxie down by seducing him and taking Moxxie back to their home to change for that evening.

Moxxie and Millie later arrive at Ozzie's, with Blitzo secretly following behind. When Blitzo tries to enter the club, the bouncer reveals that the establishment is for couples only; thinking on his feet, Blitzo flirts with the bouncer, who quickly throws him out. Blitzo decides to call Stolas and invite him as his date; meanwhile, Stolas is at home alone because Stella has taken Octavia away for the weekend. He wearily makes a bowl of cereal and watches a romantic telenovela when the phone rings; seeing that it is Blitzo calling, Stolas trips over to answer it and immediately agrees to go out with Blitzo. He arrives about twenty minutes later in a fancy outfit, and they both walk up to the club. The bouncer moves to stop Blitzo from entering again but apologizes when Stolas asks if there is an issue and lets them in.

Getting a table near the stage, Stolas tries to make small talk with Blitzo, who is preoccupied with looking for Moxxie and Millie. The lights go down, and Blitzo is horrified to see that the show host for the night is Fizzarolli. Fizzarolli mentions the Loo Loo Land fire, aggressively remarking how he wanted to meet the person who caused it. He introduces a few of the performers for tonight, including Verosika Mayday, causing Blitzo to bemoan his situation further. The scene cuts to Verosika at the bar, shoving away Wally Wackford, who was handing her a drink at the bar.

Fizzarolli reveals that the first act is a song written and performed by Moxxie, much to Millie's surprise and delight. After Moxxie sings for some time, the other patrons show restlessness. Asmodeus comes on stage with Fizzarolli to mock his sincere song being performed in a place known for lust and desire through their own song. Blitzo tries to go to Moxxie and Millie's defense, only for Fizzarolli to turn his jabs at Blitzo. Verosika quickly joins in and sings about Blitzo not being good in bed and breaking her heart. With some surprise, Asmodeus notices that Stolas is with Blitzo and takes light of him risking the prince's seemingly perfect life by sleeping with Blitzo, apparently creating illusions of Stella and Octavia looking angry at him. Millie eventually interjects by attacking Fizzarolli and gets Moxxie to finish his song; by that point, Blitzo is incredibly upset but pulls his hand away when Stolas tries to comfort him. Blitzo and Stolas leave at Blitzo's request, looking sad and embarrassed.

After Moxxie finishes his song to a fairly positive response from the audience, Asmodeus bluntly and angrily tells him and Millie to leave.

After Stolas is driven back home, giving his gratitude and appreciation for inviting him on a night out, he invites Blitzo to come in for a while, only for Blitzo to decline, saying he is not in the mood. Stolas offers to just talk or cuddle instead, but Blitzo again refuses. On the verge of crying, Blitzo reminds Stolas that what they have is nothing but Stolas wanting to have sex with him. Given the night's circumstances, Blitzo does not have the energy to do so and apologizes. Stolas understands and bids him goodnight as the latter does the same; after Blitzo leaves, Stolas sheds a few tears before sitting outside on the front steps of his mansion.

Blitzo goes back to his apartment, and after reading a note from Loona saying she's out at a party with Vortex, he lies on his couch and pulls out his phone. He flips through several images. There is a selfie he took of him and Stolas in bed cuddling, a picture of him with Millie and Moxxie drinking boba tea together, a picture of him excitedly holding up the adoption papers with Loona, who is less excited, a picture of him shaking hands with Moxxie while holding up the I.M.P business card, implying that this was when he was first hired, a picture of him and Verosika together, and two pictures of him and Fizzarolli growing up; one as teens at a concert and the other as little kids. The last picture is of him, his sister, and another imp who appears to be their mother; that image causes him to sob, crying into a pillow.

Trivia[]

  • This episode and its following episode were originally planned to be a two-part season finale. However, due to production difficulties, the team decided to make this episode the official season finale, while the eighth episode would be classified as a season special.[1]
    • It was also stated that episode 7 was the "real story finale of the season" and further stating that episode 8 was created as a bonus episode anyway.[1]
    • On YouTube the episode is no longer titled "HELLUVA BOSS - OZZIE'S // S1: Episode 7 - FINALE PART I", with the "PART I" having been removed.
  • This episode marks a number of first times for the series, such as:
    • None of the main characters, or any characters at all, are featured in the title card, instead featuring a demonic sigil of a Deadly Sin, being the sigil of Asmodeus.
    • Vivienne Medrano both wrote and directed the episode on her own, without Brandon Rogers, the other lead writer and director of the series.
    • The interior of Bitzo's apartment is shown.
    • Stolas calling Blitzo by his name, rather than his usual affectionate nickname for him, "Blitzy."
    • Blitzo getting consequences for stalking Moxxie and Millie outside of work.
    • A greenscreen to be used during production, in this case, the effects of Stolas' cape.
    • Being the first episode that has the longest hiatus following its release, sitting at seven months.
  • Just like all the released episodes of 2021, this has scenes shown in the trailer for season one, to which some shots were improved.
  • Moxxie and Millie's first anniversary may be an allusion to the fact that this episode was released on the first anniversary of the official first episode, "Murder Family".
  • Around the exact same moment this episode was released, Stolas published a post on his non-canon Voxtagram account.
    • This was later followed up by him posting about the date's aftermath later on.
  • This episode is dedicated to the memory of animator Steven "LemonyFresh" Dorian, who was a clean-up artist for several episodes.[4]
  • A poster advertising Angel Dust's services can be seen next to alleyway Blitzo thrown out to.
  • It is shown on a billboard that Imp City is located in what is called the second circle. However, Sinners, who are unable to leave the Pride Ring, are seen in Imp City as well as in the I.M.P headquarters. This may be a continuity error, or done on purpose to retcon the restriction, or could allude to both a "Seven Rings of Hell" and a "Nine Circles of Hell" existing.
  • Stolas is the only occupant in his mansion in the episode, and later, he mentions that Octavia was with Stella for the weekend. The latters' absence implies that Stella is no longer living with Stolas, or is spending time away from him.
  • The picture of Blitzo with Barbie as kids features them with their mother, who bears a striking resemblance to Tilla.
  • Despite Loona's adoption papers stating it's from Illinois, Jeff Delgado, the artist whom drew the phone screenshots, confirms that it was a random adoption paper template and thus non-canon.[5]
  • When Stolas tells Blitzo that he would "be there at twenty," he arrives at the Lust Ring approximately twenty seconds after the phone call.

Cultural References[]

  • The television in Stolas' house is from a company named HELLG, a parody of the real-life conglomerate company LG.
  • The apps on Blitzo's phone are parodies of real-life app services:
    • WackDonald's is a parody of McDonald's.
    • Sinstagram is a parody of Instagram.
    • Voxflix is a combination of Netflix and Vox. Interestingly, this service was first referenced in the non-canon Voxtagram stories.
    • Lustinder is a parody of Tinder with its symbol being Asmodeus's silhouette.
    • Envee has the same colors as the TikTok logo.
    • Bee Eats is a reference to Uber Eats and features the same symbol found on the Beelzejuice, possibly relating it to Beelzebub.
  • The rainfall outside Ozzie's theater might be an allusion to the 2nd Circle of Hell (Lust) in Dante Alighieri's Inferno.
  • When Blitzo walks out of the office, he whistles the same tune Poison Ivy whistles in the beginning of the Harley Quinn episode "Finding Mr. Right".
  • Asmodeus's dance moves mimic the Genie's "Friend Like Me" climax from Aladdin. This is fitting as Asmodeus's voice actor was best known for performing as the Genie for the Aladdin musical.
  • The suit Stolas wears to Ozzie's closely resembles that of Duke Sateriasis Venomania, the sinner of Lust from the Vocaloid series The Evillious Chronicles.
  • The sly grin Blitzo gives Jesse upon emerging from the dumpster resembles the memed face Spongebob Squarepants makes in the episode "Just One Bite".

Continuity[]

  • Stolas' Loo Loo Land outfit from the titular episode is seen in his closet.
    • The Imp couple sitting at the "Hot and Cold Drunks" stall in Loo Loo Land appears as the couple whose table gets performed on by Verosika.
    • Fizzarolli recalls the destruction of both Loo Loo Land and his robotic double.
  • Wally Wackford is once again seen working a different job in this episode, this time working as a bartender at Ozzie's.
  • Verosika and her posse are seen at Ozzie's, implying they either broke out of prison, never went to prison, or have served their incarceration on Earth during the events of "Spring Broken".
    • Loona going to a party with Vortex is a callback to Vortex mentioning his girlfriend throwing hound parties and thus inviting Loona to one.
  • The art style briefly changes during the beginning of Moxxie's song, similar to how the art style was deliberately changed during the music sequence of the previous episode.

Errors[]

  • From when Stolas first answers the phone and spills his bowl of cereal, to when it cuts back to his response, the spill is much smaller.
  • From 4:19 to 4:24, as Stolas agrees to a date with Blitzo, the cord connecting his phone's handset and receiver disappears.
  • Around 7:19, Josh is seen sitting on the table wearing his attire from "Spring Broken" despite that he was sitting with Ace from the previous scene.
  • After the scene transitions around 10:19, Asmodeus' smaller faces have switched places from the previous scene.
  • A heart pattern on the back of Ozzie's tuxedo only appears during the scene where he slowly approaches Moxxie. The heart is absent in every other shot where he has his back visible.
  • When Blitzo interrupts the musical number, he is seen standing in front of his seat. But in the following shots, he is shown to be standing behind his seat.
  • The stripes on Fizzarolli's jester hat change several times during the episode.
  • Ozzie's tail feathers are missing when he first emerges from the smoke, after being introduced by Fizzarolli.
  • During the scene where Fizzarolli asks Moxxie "Yeah, what do you want? Butt stuff? Piss play? Bondage?", the outline for his right eye overlaps the outline of his head.
  • The light switch in Blitzo's apartment disappears immediately after he turns on the lights.
  • The angle of the trajectory in which Blitzo is thrown into the dumpster is shown to be within a small alley northeast of Ozzie's, which would not make sense as he is animated to look as if he has been thrown straight into the dumpster's lid from the entrance of the establishment.
    • However, it is possible that Jesse carried him over to the dumpster and then threw him in.
  • Whiskey and Rum's table first appears slightly to the left from where Blitzo is sitting, but in the next shot, their table are somewhat in-between Blitzo and Stolas, and in the following shot, their table is entirely to Stolas' further right side.
  • Blitzo's right horn has an edged curve while his left horn has its usual smooth curve when he first spies on Millie and Moxxie with binoculars.
  • Blitzo's tail is missing throughout the scene where he and Stolas discuss their relationship after he drops Stolas off.
